How
to Gift It On
Can't wait to launch your own gift thread to see where it goes?
Starting just takes a few moment of your time once you have your
gift idea. You will need to be a registered member first, but
don't worry it is fast and free (see why register).
1 - Register A Gift
Give your thread a title, a default time for how long someone
should hold the gift before passing it on and a description
as detailed as you want about the gift. Plus add a picture for
your gift of which will be incorporated automatically into the
gifts photo album. You can start and save a gift at any point
during the registration process and come back to it later.
2. Create A Label
Once you registered your gift, you will be assigned a unique
GiftID number. It will look something like this [ 001-0000234567
] and is necessary for your gift recipients to visit the gift
thread page you have created and add their details to the the
thread. We have created a few predefined labels that you can
select and print out. Otherwise, you can make a custom label
yourself - just make sure to reference www.giftion.com
and your GiftID number.
3. Gift It On
You give the physical gift just like you would normally. In
person, through the post, at a party, etc... The only difference
is it will have the Gift It On label so your friend can join
in online. All you have to do is tell us the recipients email
address. It will also notify you when the recipient has joined
the thread and allow you to send a reminder email to join.
4. Watch Your Gift Travel
Every gift has it own dedicated web page that will show you
who has had the gift and where it has been. Plus all recipients
of the gift will be able to add comments and pictures as it
moves along adding a new collaborative dimension to gift giving.
5. Keep Gifting
Once you get do it once you will be sure to get the bug and
start imagining all occasions and things that can be gifted
on.
Why
Gift It On?
We would say why not? Can't gift giving be a little cumbersome
at times and don't we end up with lots of objects that we enjoy
for some time but then tend to get regulated to a shelf somewhere?
We hope that Gift It On will not only make it easier to
give gifts to your friends but enjoy them more. Both when you
have the gift and when you follow its progression to other recipients.
Plus being a good Gift It On(er) means you can expect more gifts
for you to enjoy and keep passing on.
We also hope that Gift It On
gives you a whole new way to think about gift giving and come
up with creative ideas that gives you a reason to keep gifting.

Why Register as
a Gift It On member
We realize that almost everything today requires some sort of
registration which is why we have made it easy for people to join
a specific gift thread and participate without being a full fledge
member. However, membership has its privileges and for us that
means Gift It On is easier to use. You will easily be able
to access all gift threads that you have started or a part of
without have to remember the GiftID number, create a profile with
a picture, and be the originator of your own gift threads.
Why
a Beta?
A beta allows us to share Gift It On with you
while some aspects are still being developed. Gift It On
is very much an experiment in gift giving and as such will continue
to expand the features to help you better participate in this
collaborative gift giving movement.
